"I
met
Coach
Edwards
approximately
two
years
ago
in
Virginia
at
a
vacation
resort
while
I
was
shooting
around
with
some
boys
in
the
gym.
Coach
Edwards
approached
me
and
introduced
himself
and
told
me
that
I
had
potential
and
asked
about
my
grades.
I
responded
by
saying
A's
and
B's
but
they
could
be
better.
From
the
very
first
time,
Coach
Edwards
was
treating
me
like
his
own
daughter.
He
then
told
me
about
a
school
in
Montgomery
County,
Maryland
called
Newport
School.
Located
in
Kensington,
Maryland,
it
is
a
private
school
with
a
great
academic
program
that
I
could
really
benefit
from.
So
later
on
that
day,
Coach
Edwards
met
my
parents
and
discussed
the
pros
and
cons
of
attending
Newport.
He
also
told
me
about
his
responsibilities
at
the
school
and
his
program,
The
Educators
Basketball
Association.
I
was
very
optimistic
about
everything.
Two
weeks
after
my
parents
and
I
visited
the
school
and
met
the
girls
varsity
basketball
team,
I
knew
this
was
the
place
I
should
be.
Six
days
later,
my
parents
enrolled
me
at
the
Newport
School
as
a
Junior.
Coach
Edwards
made
a
statement
to
me
earlier
that
he
could
not
promise
me
a
basketball
scholarship,
but
he
could
promise
me
a
great
education
and
unlimited
exposure
on
the
basketball
court.
I
will
remember
that
statement
always
because
Coach
Edwards
kept
his
promise
and
even
exceeded
it.
While
at
Newport,
I
have
maintained
a
3.5
grade
point
average
making
the
Honor
Roll.
I
have
also
received
over
a
dozen
interested
looks
from
major
colleges
and
universities.
From
the
very
first
time
I
met
Coach
Edwards
he
built
my
confidence,
game,
and
stamina
not
only
on
the
basketball
court
but
also
in
the
classroom.
Coach
Edwards
brought
out
the
potential
he
saw
in
me
that
I
knew
I
had
but
just
didn't
know
how
to
get
it
all
out.
I
am
a
Senior
now
and
I
have
signed
a
letter
of
intent
to
attend
the
University
of
Maryland
Baltimore
County
on
a
full
scholarship.
I
will
be
a
biology
major
and
plan
to
be
a
doctor.
I
have
a
3.8
grade
point
average
and
plan
to
get
it
higher.
I
am
privileged
to
have
met
Coach
Edwards.
He
was
the
stepping
stone
in
my
life
that
I
needed.
I
will
cherish
his
friendship
forever.
