Kami Roeder started playing basketball as a young girl on a farm in Northern Ohio. Her greatest opponents while growing up were her three older brothers playing pick-up games in the barn court. She grew up and played basketball for Norwalk St. Paul's High School were she was captain of her team junior and senior years. She received the honor of Player of the Year in her respected district and MVP of senior squad.
Kami went to Capital University in Columbus, Ohio from 1993-1997. She played all four years for the Crusaders and helped lead them to two straight National Championships in 1994 and 1995. Her senior squad placed third in the nation. Kami was a captain for her junior and senior squads. While at Capital, she received the Most Improved award and the Most Spirited award. Being selected Most Spirited on her team meant a great deal. It meant that her teammates believed in her and what she had to say every game.
In the summer of 1998 Kami Roeder became Kami Humbert as she married her college sweetheart, Jason. She has taught in Columbus Public Schools and coached the freshman girls basketball team in Worthington, Ohio. She currently is teaching for Montgomery County and coaching basketball for James Hubert Blake High School.
Kami believes in the fundamentals of basketball. She also believes that what you learn on the court can be brought into everyday life. She learned many things about life and herself through athletics and wants to bring those things to her student and players.
